2021 Approach
The mission of the Moon Dialogs is to produce credible, actionable mechanisms facilitating lunar coordination, policies, norms and laws; leveraging voluntary frameworks and cross-sector, international support. In support of that mission, the Moon Dialogs Convenors have determined to focus on three main themes in 2021: Sustainable Moon, Accessible Moon, and Peaceful Moon.
Choosing to focus on select themes, working with more focus and going deeper, was the direct result of community input on “what next?” in the Dec 2020 salon.
Themes
The three themes focus on in 2021 represent timely issues that the lunar community is discussing actively and issues where 2021 could be a watershed year for how the policy views are formulated on each:
Theme 1: Accessible Moon
Exploring strategies to assure lunar activities draw upon the diversity of humanity to build a human presence on the Moon and beyond.
Leading Convenor: MIT Space Exploration InitiativeTheme 2: PEACEFUL MOON
Analysing stakeholder motivations, responsibilities and relationships and how they pertain to and affect lunar governance and, in particular, security.
Leading Convenor: Secure World FoundationTheme 3: Sustainable Moon
Examining models for resource management and infrastructure development to support a vibrant human presence on the Moon and in space.
Leading Convenor: Open Lunar Foundation
