Moon Dialogs
facilitating lunar coordination
We invite industry, government and academia on equal footing to join our discussions on these themes, with an emphasis on practical tools, operating models, and rights frameworks for the next 10 years. Moon Dialogs is not a consensus forum, but a place to put forward ideas which will accelerate short term activity and support bold plans for a sustained presence on the Moon.

We host interdisciplinary research salons to develop, review and share relevant scholarship on lunar issues, offering an ongoing community of practice to policymakers and researchers in disparate organizations, nations, and areas of expertise.
Our Conveners
Our organisations work closely together to contribute intellectual, social, financial and human capital to achieve our goals. As a team made up of esteemed independant institutions we aim to provide an informed, values-driven, facilitated environment for public, private, scientific, civic actors to gain capacity and clarity on policies that enable shared lunar futures.
Arizona State University:
Interplanetary Initiative
Interplanetary Initiative is an interdepartmental project of ASU paving the way for the future of humans in space. Today, space is a realm for heroes. But our new Sputnik moment could be a recognition of our mutual fragility as citizens of this small blue planet. We can forge an alternative future, and our cooperation can provide a blueprint for a commonality of purpose that eludes us in our terrestrial endeavors. To do that, we constellate teams to create a positive and practical path to space and build a framework for the organization of an extraterrestrial society. Together, we can humanize space, familiarize it, and make it feel more possible. Space will play an integral role in humanity’s future in terms of both research and resources. Therefore, everyone should be able to imagine themselves, or their children, living and working in space.
Open Lunar Foundation
The Open Lunar Foundation is a non-profit that exists to help create a self-sustaining settlement on the Moon to advance life. We’re developing technology, policies and an open-source structure to ensure that when we go to the Moon, it’s in a peaceful, collaborative way for the benefit of our greater human family - to expand our horizons, prepare for existential risks, and learn to live better on Earth. A core aspect of the Open Lunar Foundation’s work is to play a leadership role in the development of moral, legal, economic and social precedents regarding humanity’s approach to lunar life. With national & private interests growing for lunar settlement, mining, and exploration of the “8th continent”, Open Lunar brings intentionality to the process of off-Earth development. It’s time to anchor in some operating principles for all actors who are exploring humanity’s role on the Moon.
Secure World Foundation
Secure World Foundation is a private operating foundation that promotes cooperative solutions for space sustainability and the peaceful uses of outer space. The Foundation acts as a research body, convener, and facilitator to promote key space sustainability topics and to examine their influence on governance and international development. We specialize in facilitating interdisciplinary, interagency, and international discussions among multiple perspectives that examine the challenges to, and potential solutions for, the long-term sustainable use of space. Central to these conversations is the development and promulgation of international norms that can foster and govern responsible use of and operations in space. As lunar activities proliferate, SWF and its partners will lead the way in identifying, discussing, and advocating for sustainable use of the moon in support of socioeconomic benefits on Earth.
For All Moonkind
CONTRIBUTING PARTNER
Each of the lunar landing and similar sites in space are a fundamental part of our human story. They mark achievements unparalleled in history yet common to all humankind. For All Moonkind is the only organization in the world focused on creating an effective system to manage and preserve these sites as our common human heritage in outer space. Heritage is the foundation of a community and if humans are to succeed in our centuries-old quest to reach the stars, we must not just stand on the shoulders of giants, but also assure their giant leaps are not erased. Our entirely volunteer international team of space lawyers, policymakers, scientists and communicators are working to develop reasonable and practical protocols that will balance development and preservations – guidelines and recommendations that will inform all aspects of the sustainable exploration and use of the Moon and space.
MIT Media Lab:
Space Exploration Initiative
The Media Lab’s interdisciplinary research community leverages the best that technology has to offer, and connecting technology back to the social and the human. Current research examines the deeper implications of where technology creation and adoption has led us—and where we want to go next. With humanity at the cusp of interplanetary civilization, the Space Exploration Initiative is building the technologies, tools, and human experiences of our sci-fi space future. We are creating space technologies that envision a bold and culturally rich “new space age,” from shareable CubeSat constellations, to self-assembling space habitats. The Space Exploration Initiative supports 40+ research projects and a team of over 50 students, staff, and faculty; we foster community and collaborations across MIT and with other academic, government, and industry partners.
